China warns importers about low-quality Indian iron ore

BEIJING, May 19 (Reuters): Chinese importers need to pay more attention to the quality of Indian iron ore after an inspection revealed that more than a third of deliveries to a key eastern province were substandard, the country's quality watchdog said Thursday.
The General Administration of Quality , Supervision , Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) said 36.13 per cent of Indian ore shipments delivered to Jiangsu province in the first four months of the year did not make the required grade.
AQSIQ said in a notice posted on its website (aqsiq.gov.cn) that the 827 shipments either had a lower FE content than stipulated in contracts or contained too many impurities.
"In the pursuit of profits, certain illegal traders were colluding with certain illegal inspection organisations to produce shipment inspection reports that do not accord with the facts," it said.
