Wednesday, 23 December 2009

BEIJING, Dec 22 (Commodity Online): China's coal-bed gas reserves currently stands at 170 billion cubic meters and annual output at 700 million cu m, according to country's Land and Resources ministry.
China made use of about 1.72 billion cu m of coal-bed gas last year with a utilization rate of only 30 per cent, so the country still has potential for development in the field due to the imperfect industry mechanism, the ministry said.
As of the middle of October, the National Development and Reform Commission had approved 76 coal-bed gas projects that will be designated as clean development mechanism projects under the Kyoto Protocol.
In 2008, around 3,400 coal-bed gas deposits were found, bringing the country's total proven coal-bed gas reserves to 134 billion cu m.
The country also pays much attention to safety in the process of coal exploration and intends to allocate 3 billion yuan every year to reduce the accident rate, the ministry added.
