SHANGHAI, Aug 19 (AFP): China's economy can maintain annual growth of around nine per cent in coming years, state media reported today, citing a senior economist at a government think tank.
Expanding industries and growing cities will continue to prop up economic growth, the Shanghai Securities News reported, citing Liu Shijin, vice director of the development and research centre.
"China's economy is already in the fast lane, and with industrialisation and urbanisation still taking place, it has the potential to keep momentum for rapid growth," Liu was quoted as saying. Economic growth in China slowed to 10.4 per cent in the first half from 11.9 per cent for all of 2007.
