China's wheat output forecast to increase this year

BEIJING, June 21 (CEIS): China's total output of wheat is forecast to reach 94.97 billion kg this year, increasing 3.61 billion kg or four per cent over last year
According to a meeting held by the National Bureau of Statistics ( NBS) in Nanjing, capital city of east China's Jiangsu Province, the planting area of wheat in the country's nine major wheat production provinces is estimated at 288.22 million mu (15 mu equals to one hectare) this year, rising seven million mu or 2.5 per cent year on year.
The total volume of wheat for market sales in the nine provinces is estimated to reach about 51.7 billion kg, increasing 1.8 billion kg over last year, and the total purchase of new wheat in the nine province is estimated at 50.3 billion kg this year, of which 40.8 billion kg will be purchased by state-owned grain enterprises, down 5. 8 billion kg from the previous year.
