Chinese investment sought in solar, weaving, textiles sectors

Local entrepreneurs Saturday sought Chinese investments in solar energy, weaving and textiles sectors.
The entrepreneurs were addressing a meeting of the visiting trade delegation from Wuxi of China held at FBCCI office in the city. First vice president of the FBCCI presided over the meeting.
Wuxi dubbed as the "little Shanghai" for its economic progress is in Jiangsu province of China.
Md Badrul Huda Mashuk, a textile dyeing and printing entrepreneur, said: "I need capital machinery to manufacture woven garments."
He also sought investment in the form of joint venture for this purpose.
Md Harun-ur-Rashid, chairman of Apex Weaving and Finishing Mills Ltd., told the meeting that Bangladesh now needs faster looms to keep pace with the growing demand for the local clothing.
"We've large plant in Gazipur. We want to go for joint venture investment with Chinese entrepreneur," Mr Harun added.
Mr Harun said language is a major problem to do business with Chinese entrepreneurs.
Obaidur Rahman, a director of the FBCCI said Bangladesh has been facing power crisis for long adding: "We have bright prospect for renewable energy."
Mr Obaid said Chinese entrepreneurs might invest in the field as wages are comparatively cheap in Bangladesh.
He also said Bangladesh has preferential market for export of the solar panels.
Mr Obaid also urged the Chinese team to set up automobile plants either directly or under joint venture.
Addressing the meeting Yang Zhi Wei, a member of the team said Wuxi has the largest solar power plant in China.
