Chinese leader Yan Junqi in city

Vice Chairperson of the Standing Committee of China’s National People’s Congress Yan Junqi arrived in Dhaka on Tuesday on a three-day visit to hold talks with Bangladesh leaders. The purpose of her visit is to promote friendly contacts and exchanges between parliaments of the two countries, said an official. Junqi, also the Chairperson of China Association for Promoting Democracy, which is one of nine political parties of China, is visiting Dhaka at the invitation of Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury. During her visit, she will meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and hold talks with the Speaker. Junqi will also meet BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, members of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Women and Children Affairs and a number of women MPs, according to UNB.
