Chinese provincial leader meets Yunus

Lu Hao, the secretary general of the Communist Party of China Gansu Committee Monday called on Dr Muhammad Yunus to thank him for the programmes set up by Grameen Trust (GT) in Gansu.
The programmes set by GT in Gansu have been successfully providing micro credit loans to the farmers in the province.
Secretary Lu, accompanied by a delegation of nine persons including Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Zhang Xianyi, discussed in details about the positive impact of micro credit on the incomes and lives of the farmers and their families.
Professor HI Latifee, the managing director of Grameen Trust was also present at the meeting.
Lu said the programme has become an example, which could be extended to all 31 provinces of China, especially the poorer western provinces of the country.
Lu also said the GT this month received a license from the Chinese government to operate the same programmes in Inner Mongolia and also expected to be introduced very soon in Sichuan.
Yunus thanked the Secretary for his visit, and also briefed him about the social business activities of Grameen and their potential to address problems related to agriculture and healthcare in China.
Lu Hao was first appointed the Communist Party Secretary of Gansu in April 2007. He was re-elected to this post at the 11th Gansu Provincial People's Congress on January 26, 2008.
