Chinese shares surge

The prices of most of the shares in Chinese stock markets rose in morning trade on Thursday after an unexpected rise in the previous session improved investor expectations, dealers said. The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index rose 0.10 per cent, or 1.98 points, to 2,052.21. The Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China’s second exchange, edged up 0.08 per cent, or 0.87 points, to 1,064.09, according to AFP.
