Chinese Taipei stun Bangladesh

Tuesday, 11 May 2010

Chinese Taipei shocked hosts Bangladesh 7-5 as they came from 2-0 down to take the pole position of the point table of the Robi Asian Games Hockey Qualifiers at the Moulana Bhashani Hockey Stadium in the city Monday, reports BSS.
Physical fitness as well as the better game planning enabled Chinese Taipei to stage a tremendous comeback after conceding two early goals in the opening minutes.
But gradually Bangladesh lost their stamina handing over the dominance to their opponents and the poor defending caused their downfall.
More often the Chinese Taipei attackers were found unmarked. It is for the first time Bangladesh has lost against Chinese Taipei in three meetings.
The swift Chinese Taipei players methodically utilized the huge gaps provided by the Bangladesh defenders with swift counter attacks and also showed their prowess in converting the penalty corners and at the end of the day were the deserved winners.
Bangladesh players have only themselves to blame as they squandered at least two certain goal scoring opportunities that would have allowed the match to end in a draw.
Chayan hit his second hat-trick in as many ties as he saw Bangladesh despite a bright start with a two goal lead faded miserably. In the 7th minute as Rana and Krishna scored two field goals with Jimmy doing the spadework for both the goals and specially Krishna's diving effort was off the Jimmy square pass was simply mind blowing.
However complacency gripped Bangladesh and Chinese Taipei skipper Chen Yi implemented his drag and flick abilities with perfection to restore the parity in the 9th and 18th minutes. Unfazed by two-goal onslaught, Bangladesh hit back with Chayan emulating Chen Yi to take the lead in the 20th minute.
However fleet footed left out Tsai Ming equalized the scoreline with a swift counter attack beating Bangladesh custodian Zahid with a fierce diagonal hit from the top of the 16 yard box.
Bangladesh players were visibly upset and conceded the fourth in the dying seconds of the first half with Chen Yi beating Zahid from a close range in his second attempt.
Skipper Biplob's faulty clearance enabled Tsai Ming to take the lead to 5-3 but Bangladesh tried to comeback with two quick goals.
Chayan scored from a penalty corner and converted the penalty in the 48th and 54th minutes but Hu Chun's strike in the 54th minute and a beautiful third goal of Tsai Ming in the 65th minute crushed Bangladesh hopes.
In the other matches of the day Singapore outplayed Hong Kong 3-1 with Kai Bin Chia, Enrico Elift and Prashan Anbagalan scoring in the 16th, 55th and 69th minutes for the winners. Asgar Ali pulled one back for the losers in the 45th minute.
Oman won a 5-4 cliffhanger against Sri Lanka as Oman scored three quick goals within five minutes in the second half to seal the fate.
