Christmas celebrated

Saturday, 26 December 2009

Christmas, the largest religious festival of the Christian community, was celebrated Friday across the country with due religious fervour and festivity.
In the capital, Christians visited churches where special arrangements were made to mark the birthday of Jesus Christ. Some 40 churches in the capital city held several sessions of special Christmas prayers Thursday night and Friday morning, reports UNB. Christmas carols, hymns and other musical and entertainment shows were also staged before and after the prayer sessions.
Decoration of Xmas trees with colourful lights, special prayers, distribution of gifts among children by Santa Claus and exchange of pleasantries were the main features of the day's festivities.
The Christian community arranged feasts at hotels and their homes with cakes dominating the courses to share the happiness with relatives, friends and neighbours.
President Zillur Rahman Friday hosted a reception to members of the Christian community at Bangabhaban on the occasion.
