CHT district councils get secondary edn authority

The authority of secondary education in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) under the Ministry of Education was handed over to the respective CHT district councils at a programme in the capital Monday, reports BSS.
The authority was transferred in line with the Chittagong Hill Tract Peace Accord 1997 and CHT District Council Act 1989.
As per the accord and the act, Khagrachhari Technical School and College was also handed over to the district council concerned.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, Prime Minster's Adviser Dr Gowher Rizvi, State Minister for CHT Affairs Bir Bahadur Ushewe Sing, Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on CHT Affairs Ministry RAM Ubaidul Moktadir Chowdhury and senior officials of the ministry concerned, among others, were present in the programme.
At the function, the education minister said the handing over of secondary education authority is a milestone in implementing the peace accord.
"This initiative will bring a positive change in the education sector of the CHT districts."
