CHT people breathe in fresh air with implementation of Peace Treaty

Tribal people and Bangali in the three Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) districts have started getting the fruit of peace and breathing in fresh air as the present government has initiated the implementation of the CHT Peace Treaty, reports BSS.
The government as per its election pledge had initiated various measures for implementation of the treaty within its six months in office and as part of it, the government on July 29 had announced the decision of withdrawal of one brigade, three infantry battalion and 35 temporary army camps from Rangamati and Khagrachhari districts from August.
The withdrawal of army camps had started from Friday last.
Besides, a three-member Peace Treaty Implementation Committee has been constituted with Deputy Leader of the House Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury as its head to monitor implementation of the treaty.
Other members of the committee are Chairman of CHT Regional Parishad Jotyrindra Bodhipriya Larma (Santu Larma) and Chairman of CHT Refugee Affairs Commission Jotyndra Lal Tripura, MP.
A Taskforce on Refugee Affairs with Jotyndra Lal Tripura, MP as the Chairman with the status of a state minister, CHT Development Board with Bir Bahadur Chakma, MP as the Chairman have already been formed and the Land Reforms Commission has been reconstituted.
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on CHT Affairs will hold a meeting on August 18 in Rangamati.
Land Reforms Commission held meetings at three CHT districts and it was decided at the meetings for seeking approval of the concerned ministry regarding inviting applications from the affected people.
