Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) M Azizur Rahman Thursday submitted to Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Barrister Shafique Ahmed draft rules for implementation of the Right to Information Act, meant for ensuring free flow of information.
"The draft of the rules has been finalised and a copy of it was submitted to the Law Minister to make it into law," the CIC told journalists after the meeting with the minister at his office in the city Thursday, reports UNB.
He said names of 400 information officers who will provide information to members of the public were received by the commission.
They will be appointed after scrutiny.
The CIC said they would complete tour of district headquarters in next 90 days to brief the district information officers about their tasks.
Meanwhile, a three-member delegation led by Political and Economic Councillor of the United States (US) Embassy Jon Donilowicz Thursday met Information Minister Abul Kalam Azad at his office and discussed issues including the Rights to Information Act, mass media and anti-terror campaign.
The information minister told the delegation that the mass media had been working freely and independently which would help sustain democracy in the country.
He said the government has passed the Rights to Information Act to establish citizens' right to know as well as transparency and accountability in government and non-government institutions.
Director of the Information Support Team at the US Embassy Carla Kiernan, Pacific Command Organization's team leader Phil Mahla and Information Secretary Dr Kamal Abdul Naser were present, according to a PID handout.
