CID gets 45 more days in arms case

CHITTAGONG, May 15: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has got another 45 days for submitting more investigation report on the 10-truck loaded arms case. The court of Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate AKM Shamsul Islam extended the time upon a petition filed by the investigation officer (IO) and senior assistant superintendent of the CID in the port city M Moniruzzaman. Earlier, the court ordered the IO to submit the report on May 15. But the IO said he needs a further extension of time to probe the case and added that he made a good progress in the mean time. Meanwhile, Jama'at-e-Islami leader Matiur Rahman Nizami, also former industries minister of the 4-party alliance government, has been shown arrested in the case at the order of the court. Nizami was quizzed on May 7 last in the same case at the Dhaka Central Jail, the CID official informed the court.
