CID removed from 7-murder probe

Tuesday, 11 November 2014

The Supreme Court has taken away the CID from the investigation of the sensational 7 murders in Narayanganj by accepting a plea from the state. Detective Branch (DB) of police was probing the abduction and murders of 7 people in Narayanganj district in April. But a High Court (HC) bench ordered the CID to probe the sensational 7 killings, saying CID will do the shadow probe, while DB handles the main investigation. The state then moved the HiC on May 5 saying two law enforcing agencies cannot probe one incident. But the HC rejected the plea while bringing a minor change in its order on July 10. It had tasked the CID with 'inquiry' instead of 'investigation'. 7 people, including Narayanganj City Corporation's Ward 4 Councillor Nazrul Islam, the district bar association member and senior lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarkar and five others were abducted on April 27 and theit bodies were found floating in Shitalakkha and Dhaleshwari rivers three days later, according to a news agency.
