CID rescue 693 while being trafficked

Criminal Investigation Department (CID) rescued 693 people including 553 men, 73 women and 67 children while they were being trafficked through different points of the border in the last five months of this year. According to the available statistics of the CID 780 people including 580 men, 109 women and 91 children have been trafficked during the period. A total of 191 cases were lodged in this connection. Of the cases, 23 were lodged in January, 25 in February, 33 in March, 53 in April and 57 in May this year. The CID rescued 187 persons in January, 212 in February, 94 in March 120 in April and 80 in May, a CID official familiar with the process said. A total of 196 persons have been trafficked in January, 222 in February, 113 in March, 139 in April and 110 in May in 2013, he said. CID has a designated unit to combat human trafficking in Bangladesh titled Trafficking in Human Being (THB) Unit. This unit has been created to provide guidance and instructions about investigation of human trafficking cases throughout the country to ensure timely investigations and better preparation and presentation of court documents, according to BSS.
