FE Report | Friday, 19 September 2014

The government awarded Thursday Commercially Important Person (CIP) status to 11 non-resident Bangladeshis (NRBs) for their outstanding contribution in sending remittances to the country.
Khandker Mosharraf Hossain, Minister for Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment presented the CIP cards to the recipients at his office at the city's Probashi Kalyan Bhaban.
This year the government distributed CIP cards among 11 migrants for their excellent performance in sending remittance whereas one of them got the award for importing goods from Bangladesh.
Some 55 remitters applied for the CIP award-2013. Of them 11 were selected for the card.
Among the CIP card recipients, Mohammad Mahtabur Rahman, Abul Kalam and Mohammad Abul Kalam from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Mohammad Ali Talukdar and Mohammad Adnan Imam from the UK, Mohammad Shamsul Alam, Rafiqul Islam and Abdul Aziz Khan from Qatar, Abul Kalam Azad and Kazi Shafiqul Islam from Oman,  Firoz-ul-Alam from Russia received CIP cards from the minister at the programme. While addressing as chief guest the minister said government will increase the number of CIP award by nearly three times than that of the present figure to encourage overseas wage earners to send more money to the country.
The number of CIP awardees will be minimum 25 next year, he hinted.
The CIP can lodge complaint to their district manpower offices if they face harassment at home, said Mr Hossain  when some remitters alleged they faced harassment in their localities.
The minister, however, said remitters are contributing a lot to Bangladesh's economy. The ministry is working for giving proper facilities to the remitters.
Among others, secretary to the ministry, Khondaker Showkat Hossain and Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) director general Begum Shamsun Nahar were present at the programme.
