Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP) is looking for increasing the number of its member countries from the present 14 to as many as possible to enhance the organisation's area of regional cooperation to expedite rural development, reports BSS.
"We are looking for new members especially the large Asian donors like Australia and Japan as they have more recourses as well as experience and technologies on rural development," said the CIRDAP Director General, Dr Durga P. Paudyal, in an exclusive interview with the news agency ahead of CIRDAP's 29th founding anniversary.
CIRDAP celebrates its 29 founding anniversary today by organising a seminar at its auditorium in the city.
He said CIRDAP governing council would formally invite non-member countries of Asia and the Pacific region to join the organisation and participate in the second ministerial meeting, to be held in Dhaka at its headquarters at the historic `Chameli House' from November 8-12 next year. The invitation will be extended by the next two months, he added.
"If we could expand CIRDAP, it will also make a positive impact on the image of the country as it is the only regional forum or organisation whose headquarters of which is situated in Bangladesh," he said. Presently, CIRDAP comprises Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Iran, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam.
