Citi discusses future of payments in Bangladesh

Citibank, N.A. Bangladesh recently organised "Next Wave of Treasury Digitization #Looking Ahead" to discuss the emerging technological changes in the areas of trade related process and payments with specific emphasis on how global institutions like Citi can support digitization of the country's economy, said a statement.
The event was attended by senior officials from Bangladesh Bank, Ministry of Finance, clients and industry experts in the field of digital payments and e-Commerce.
Mr. Subhankar Saha, Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank attended the program as the Chief Guest. Mr. Rizwanul Huda, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Mr. N. Rajashekaran, Managing Director and Citi Country Officer, Bangladesh and Ms. Debopama Sen, Head of Treasury and Trade Solutions, South Asia were also present during the event.
During the event, Mr. Subhankar Saha discussed the importance of leveraging technology to create effective payment solutions. He illustrated how Bangladesh Bank is playing a pioneering role to expedite the nation's journey towards a paperless economy.
Ms. Debopama Sen summarized the disruptive trends in the global financial world and how Citi has positioned itself to build and deliver various innovative solutions for its clients. Mr. Md. Moinul Huq, Head of Treasury and Trade Solutions, Bangladesh reiterated the importance of digitization in cross-border payments and explained how automation can help to increase Bangladesh's competitiveness in international market.
He highlighted specific examples of Citi delivering solutions that have helped digital business flows such as customs duty payments.
While giving his remarks, Mr. N. Rajashekaran said "As a leading global bank in the country, Citi is committed to innovation and platforms that will drive the digital economy of Bangladesh".
The event included two very interactive panel discussions on the current payment landscape and digitization of trade related processes.
Separate speakers' sessions were arranged on payment behavior of Bangladesh's young consumers and future of wallet based payments in Bangladesh.
