Citigroup quiz contest launched

The Citigroup Financial Quiz Competition was formally launched today (Tuesday) to accelerate the knowledge on financial management system among the young and talented future business leaders of the country.
The launching of the quiz contest, the first of its kind in the country, was formally announced at a press conference at National Press Club.
Vice-Chancellor of the North South University and the chairperson of the advisory council for the competition Hafiz GA Siddiqui said a total of 12 universities with 36 students from each business school across the country will take part in the contest.
He said there will be 11 episodes including four preliminary rounds, four quarter finals, two semifinals and one final round during the entire quiz competition.
The advisory council will appoint a distinguished panel of jury to run the quiz competition from June to August 2007, he said.
The other members of the advisory council include former Bangladesh Bank (BB) governor and chairperson of the department of Economics of the East West University Mohammad Farashuddin, Vice-chancellor of the BRAC University Jamilur Reza Chowdhury, director Kochi Kanchar Mela Ibrahim Khalid, president of the Foreign Investors’ Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) Masih Ul Karim, managing director of the BOC Bangladesh Limited Waliur Rahman Bhuiyan, Director and head of news of the Channel-i Shykh Siraj, chartered accountant and partner of the Rahman and Rahman Huq, Adeeb H Khan, chief executive officer (CEO) of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) Salahuddin Ahmed Khan, Barrister Nihad Kabir, director MBA programme of the North South University (NSU) Meshquat Uddin, managing director and Citigroup Country Officer Mamun Rashid and director and head of Global Transaction Services, Citibank N A Bangladesh Khandaker Rashed Maqsood.
Farashuddin said mainly economics, finance, investment, stock market, banking and industries will be focused during the competition. He said a special committee will prepare the questions for the contestants where Channel-i will act as a media partner.
The final round of the competition will be held August 31, 2007, the press conference was told.
The champions will be awarded US$1000 each while each contestant of the runners up team will be awarded $500.
