CHITTAGONG Jan 01: With a view to bringing dynamism in the revenue earnings of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) and other related organisations, citizen charters would be published soon. Besides, a book with details of the rules and regulations for filling the income tax return form would also be prepared soon.
This was stated by NBR Chairman Mohammad Abdul Majeed while exchanging views with the members of the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) and other trade bodies at the Chamber house here Monday.
The NBR chairman said open dialogue will be arranged shortly for reducing distance between the NBR and the businessmen considering the business community as an associate for earning revenue.
Abdul Majeed said if citizen charters are published, businessmen and tax payers would be more conscious in realising their rights. It would also curb the immoral influence of the officials of the Revenue Department, he added.
He called upon all the trade bodies, including the CCCI, to send policy making proposals on all important issues, including budget formulation task, to the NBR.
While presiding over by the meeting CCCI President in-charge MA Latif underscored the need for undertaking initiatives for formulating guidelines with the public-private partnership.
CCCI Vice-President Mahbub Alam, in his address, proposed allowing unquestioned taxation of all CRF excepting 10 per cent of those selected for physical verification.
Meantime, the CCCI, Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and Chittagong Customs Clearing and Forwarding Agents' Association showed their keen interest in implementing 'automation system' at the Chittagong Customs House (CCH).
Mentioning their expression of interest the three organisations jointly sent a fax message to the NBR chairman in this connection recently.
