Citizens' active role underscored to realise services, rights

Citizens will have to be active to get quality service from government and NGOs for which they have the obligation while Citizen Charter and Right to Information Ordinance will play supporting role to access this service, reports BSS.
Speakers said this at the inaugural session of a 3-day orientation workshop titled "Capacity Building of Community to Realise Human Rights" organised by Human Rights and Social Justice Sector Access Project of Dhaka Ahsania Mission, with the support of CORDAID, an associate development organisation of the Netherlands, held Saturday at the Mission Bhaban Auditorium in the capital.
The speakers said a conscious citizen alone can contribute to the development of the society. Citizens will have to come forward to access the facilities available provided by various departments, e.g. education, women and child affair, youth development, social welfare, fisheries and livestock and health services given by various organisations at the upazila level.
The representative of the service provider institution/organisation will play the leading role in this regard.
Dhaka Ahsania Mission (DAM) has created fundamental social services and information technology facilities through 553 Ganokendras (people's centre) and 32 Community Resource Centres (CRC) at the grass roots level which will minimise information related gap between people of cities and villages.
Presided over by DAM Programme Director Shafiqul Islam, the inaugural session was addressed by Programme Coordinator Komol Kumar Joardar, IT Specialist Sheikh Shafiqur Rahman and Programme Officer Yeasmin Ara Baby of DAM.
