Citizens propose 7-point to settle vested property issue

Eighteen noted personalities of the country Tuesday put forward a seven-point proposal to resolve the 40-year-old vested property issue, reports BSS.

The proposal came ahead of the government's initiative to promulgate an ordinance titled 'Vested Property Scrutiny and Settlement Ordinance - 2008.'

The initiative is designed to resolve the long complicated issue relating to the rights to property of a community.

The government has already prepared the draft ordinance, which is now under the process of finalisation. The citizens revealed their proposals at a press conference at National Press Club. Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST), Ain-o-Salish Kendra (ASK), Association for Land Reform and Development (ALRD), Bangladesh Economic Association (BEA), Nizera Kori, Vested Property Act Resistance Movement and Combined Social Movement jointly organised it.

The signatories are: former justice Mohammad Golam Rabbani, Advocate Sultana Kamal of ASK, Dr QK Ahmed of BEA, former Army Chief Lt General (retd) Harun-or-Rashid Bir Protik, president of Enemy Property Law Preventive Movement (EPLPM) journalist Kamal Lohani, executive director of BLAST Talimur Rahman, general secretary of BEA Dr Abul Barakat, coordinator of Nizera Kori Kushi Kabir, executive director of ALRD Shamsul Huda, general secretary of Sanmilita Samajik Andolon Advocate Tobarak Hossain, journalist Syed Abul Maksud, general secretary of EPLPM Advocate Subrata Chowdhury, senior lawyer of the Supreme Court Advocate Nizamul Haque Nasim, professor of Dhaka University Dr Sadeka Halim, executive director of Research Initiative Bangladesh Dr Meghna Guha Thakurata, researcher Dr Swapan Adnan, professor Dr Raushan Ara of Dhaka University and Barrister Sara Hossain.
