City Corporation polls will be held in time: Maya

Friday, 12 December 2014

Dhaka City Awami League (AL) general secretary and Relief and Disaster Management Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya (Bir Bikram) said Thursday whatever BNP utters, City Corporation polls will be held as per schedule, reports BSS.
"I came to know from newspaper reports that city corporation polls will be held in January. But, BNP has been saying that we have been holding the polls conspiring to foil their movement. Remarks of Mirza Fakhrul Islam will not work, the polls will be held on schedule," he said.
The AL leader said this while speaking at an extended meeting of Dhaka City AL at its Bangabandhu Avenue office in the city. The meeting was convened to make the programmes of the Martyred Intellectuals Day and the Victory Day successful.
Speaking at the meeting, Dhaka City AL joint general secretary and Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam said the media has been contributing a lot to the existence of BNP. "BNP has got no organisational strength to launch a movement. None will take part in their movement although they (BNP) have been giving challenge," he said adding: "None will be spared if anybody indulges in terrorism in the name of movement. BNP has turned out to be a paper tiger."
Turning to BNP's threat to dislodge the government from power waging a movement, Quamrul Islam said, "You have to wait for another four Januarys till 2019. Then the polls will be held in the country. Take preparations for the next polls."
Vice-president of Dhaka City Awami League Abul Bashar chaired the meeting, also addressed, among others, by joint general secretary Haji Mohammad Selim.
