City corporation services
Sunday, 9 August 2015
Dhaka City Corporation was bifurcated with a promise to provide better amenities for the citizens, but the situation remains unchanged. We know as residents of Dhaka city, the DCC is responsible to clear garbage, keep footpaths clear, maintain roads in order, ensure street lighting, control mosquitoes etc.
Unfortunately, all these city services are not adequate as road conditions are poor and water logging is a regular feature in many parts of the city. The condition of Kawran Bazar market is so poor that one has to wear gum boots to go there and most of the market buildings are dilapidated. The fish market zone is about to collapse as the beams are being somehow supported from breaking down by installing dozens of bamboo props. The floors of rice selling area have dozens of cracks. Staircases are about to crumble. It would be wise to divide each ward into several pockets and developer may be engaged to improve the area.
City roads should be placed under the roads department in view of its expertise. Let the LGRD Ministry look into the matter honestly.
