City fashion houses busy readying Eid offers

The city's fashion houses are preparing themselves to meet the varied demands of the shoppers ahead of Eid with their new designs and collections displayed to attract customers.
The fashion houses are busy stocking their special collections for customers of all ages. Most of them have started to showcase their Eid collections from the first day of Ramadan.
International fashion designer Bibi Russell's fashion house 'bibi production' has come up with 100 per cent handloom and needle-work-based collection for eid.
Manager of 'bibi production' Zakir Hossain said sarees like cotton, Jamdani, Andisilk, Belkuchi, half-silk with needle-works, embroidery works, block-printed are available at prices between Tk 450 and Tk 16,000 per piece depending on the quality and design.
On the other hand, single salwar, single kameez and single dopatta of cotton and silk ornamented with block print, kathastiched, hand-embroidered and varieties of cut and design are selling at prices between Tk 450 and Tk 750.
For males panjabi, fotua and kurta and for females tops-all these cotton fabric items are available with price tags ranging between Tk 600 and Tk 850.
Aarong, one of the country's leading fashion house, has come up with a new set of collections for the females including 'Ornamental Nostalgia', 'Urban folk', 'Pride in Weaves', 'Paisley Perfect' and 'Drop of pearl', said Sadia Hoque, executive (marketing) of Aarong.
She said they have a good collection for males as well including 'Dhaka Toon' and 'Out of the Box' themes and for babies 'Unexpected icon' and 'Preety Framed'.
'Ornamental Nostalgia' is inspired by traditional ethnic jewellery motif in Salwar-kameez with sequence, block, beads and thread work. Its price ranges between Tk 3,000 and Tk 7,000 a set.
'Urban folk', also a salwar-kameez set, is based on a vibrant orange Maslin fabric, with stitches of bright contrasting colours all over it, which costs between Tk 7,000 and Tk 10,000.
The theme 'Pride in Weaves' is basically Jamdani sari ornamented with shaded thread and sequence work, with prices ranging between Tk 5,000 and Tk 15,000.
'Abstract Appeal' is a geometric and floral motif on sari, which costs Tk 2500-Tk 6,000 while 'Paisley Perfect' is based on paisley (Kalka) with hand embroidery on silk saree, which costs Tk 10,000-20,000 a piece.
'Drop of Pearl' is based on main texture of pearl colour, baby pink, ash, etc on maslin, crepe, cotton and tassore cloth with jamdani and floral motif in both saree and salwar-kameez, and dopatta with beads work. The price ranges between Tk 2,000 and Tk 8,000.
The 'Out of the Box' collection for male is a different cut of panjabi in silk and dupian cloth with hand embroidery, which costs Tk 3,000-7,000.
'Dhaka Toon' is for young people with cotton-based bright colour panjabi designed with traffic jam motif with prices ranging between Tk 1200 and Tk 2500.
Aarong's Baby collections include girl wear frock titled 'Unexpected icon' for 5 to 10 years age group, which cost Tk 1200-Tk 1500 while "Pretty Framed" is pastel shaded frock with white Maslin rose motif costs Tk 1200-Tk 1500.
Owner of another fashion house -Shadakalo, Tahshina Shahin said "our theme this Eid is 'Lagbe Lace Fita'. So we have made all our dresses with designs in lace and ribbon combination."
The cotton and silk salwar-kameez ranged between Tk 500 and Tk6,000 while Jamdani, Muslin Saree between Tk 7,000 and Tk. 20,000. All the fashion wear designs are hand stitched.
Director of Kay Kraft, a popular fashion house, Khalid Mahmood Khan said 'this time we are focusing on Indian subcontinent and African ornament, fabric, geometric, floral and weave motif mainly.'
'We prepared our cloths for different time and space of eid festival. We used blue, green, red, black, white, brown, yellow and golden yellow colour fabric for male, female and baby dresses and ornamented with katha and stitch, aplike, cutwork, shade work, sequence, jardousi or irri work.'
'We have used dyed and check, strip, cotton, silk etc fabric for different types of dress, salwar-kameez price ranging between Tk950 and Tk5,000 while saree ranges from Tk450 to Tk10,000'.
On the other hand panjabi, fotua (male, female) and tops are available from Tk350 to Tk6,000 while for little boy and girl's dress ranges between Tk200 and Tk2,000.
Owner of 'Deshal', Kanak Aditya, said they have introduced mobile art in clothing sector. "We think our product is a canvas. This time our theme is nature but especially popular fruits and trees."
He said: 'We have six showrooms in Dhaka and our production has doubled. So we think we are capable to cope with any demand for our products.'
'Our sari collection is generally traditional and ordinary but trendy in colour combination and its price ranges between Tk450 and Tk900'.
He said the production cost has increased around 30 to 35 per cent on an average as cost of threads has at least doubled.
The cost has increased in every layers of production, he said.
Lipi Khondoker, owner of Bibiana, said: "We have made salwar with varieties of dhuti cut for female and fitting Punjabi with V-shaped and high neck for male shoppers."
'We are focusing on lace, block, crease, and sequence work on the edges of sari, salwar, kamiz and dopatta,' she said.
On the other hand panjabi, fotua (male, female) and tops range starts from Tk350-Tk6,000 while for little boy and girl's dress starts from Tk200-Tk2000.
Another fashion house 'Banglar Mela', its owner Emdad Haque, said the theme of Eid collection is based on the design of crockery's from the Mughal period to the recent period.
He said this time we are using porshian blue, green, maroon, magenta, and turquoise colour in our cloth.
The range of salwar-kameez is between Tk 1250-2500 while Muslin, Cotton, Silk, Motka and Khadi Sharees ranges between Tk 850 and Tk. 5,500.
Baby-wears are as a little version of big one's like panjabi, salwar-kameez, sharee whose prices range between Tk 350 and Tk.1250.
Emdad said that as their target people are from middle class, they did not increase the too much.
