City gas cylinder blast death toll rises to 3

Another woman and her child, who suffered burn injuries in Saturday's gas cylinder blast in Kamrangirchar in the city, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Saturday night and early Sunday respectively. With this, the death toll in the incident reached three. The deceased were identified as Joly Begum, 27 and her one-and-half-year old son Alif. Joly, who was undergoing treatment at the DMCH with 85 percent burn injuries, succumbed to her injuries at the burn unit of the hospital around 10:10 pm while Alif, who had 95 percent burn wound, died at 1:10 am on Sunday , DMCH burn unit sources said. Earlier, Joly’s mother Aklima Begum, 50, succumbed to her burn injuries at the same hospital. Police said a fire broke out in the house of Joly following the explosion of a gas cylinder while cooking that left the trio injured on Saturday morning, according to UNB.
