City reeling under rainwater, traffic gridlock
Saturday, 27 June 2015
The city saw severe traffic congestions and waterlogging triggered by continued rains for the third consecutive day on Saturday, inflicting immense sufferings on the commuters during the holy month of fasting. The Met office recorded 27 mm of rain from 6 am to 12 pm in the capital on Saturday while the highest 213 mm rain in Teknaf during the period. However, Metrological Department assistant director Sanaul Haq said the incessant monsoon rain is likely ease from Sunday. Roads, lanes and by-lanes experienced serious water-logging like the previous days as the city’s drainage system cannot drain out the rainwater. Main city streets went under water. A good number of vehicles remained stranded in knee-to-waist deep water in many places, according to a news agency.
