A Swechchhasebak League (SL) leader, accused in a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act, died in custody at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Wednesday morning, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Farhad Hossain (44), organising secretary of Dhaka city (North) unit of Swechchhasebak League, the volunteer wing of ruling Awami League.
Jailer of Dhaka Central Jail Nesar Ali said Farhad was taken to the DMCH from the jail after he complained of chest pain. He died at the hospital around 6:20 am.
Police arrested Farhad along with 13 bottles of Phensidy syrup and 62 Yaba tablets during a drive at his office in Badda area on August 18, said Abdul Jalil, officer-in-charge (OC) of Badda.
He said the drive was conducted following the August 13 gun attack at Madhya Badda that left four people killed.
