City still in holiday mood
Tuesday, 1 December 2009
FE Report
The capital remained in a holiday mood Monday despite the government-announced holidays for Eid-ul-Azha officially ended.
City dwellers, who preferred staying in the capital instead of going to their ancestors' home away from the capital, enjoyed a traffic jam free metropolis that every one dreamed of.
Despite it was the first office day after the three day holidays, most offices remained empty as officials managed to be away from office.
"Our superior officials are still out of the office, so most of the junior employees are taking the rare chance," employees in the secretariat commented.
Most banks in the city also witnessed poor attendance of their staff members. Those who were present mostly resided in the capital and attended office in traditional festival dress-Pynjavi and Pajama- instead of bankers' formal dress.
"We kept providing our service until the mid-day but the clients' attendance was thin," a bank employee in the city's Mirpur area told the FE.
Many city residents were also seen moving across the city-streets taking advantage of traffic-free Dhaka. Most amusement parks and entertainment destinations like movies and theatres appeared packed with crowds.
Besides that, big numbers of fun-seekers were also seen in various prominent and non-prominent picnic spots around the capital.
As the festival-holidays are shorter this time and offices are open, most city dwellers are expected to return by today (Tuesday), bringing back the city in its full life and also the old traffic congestion along.
