City under security blanket for Eid

Thursday, 24 September 2015

Some 12,000 additional police personnel, including 2,000 plainclothes ones, have been deployed in the capital to ensure all-out security of city dwellers during the three-day Eid vacation.
All the eidgahs (open space for eid prayers), including National Eidgah on the High Court compound, would be under tight security, DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia told reporters after inspecting security arrangements made at the National Eidgah on Thursday. The main Eid congregation will be held on Friday at the National Eid Gah.
Talking about cattle markets, the commissioner said no untoward incident took place in the cattle markets or shopping malls and other places of public gathering due to the measures taken by the DMP (Dhaka Metropolitan Police).
About the security of vacant houses during the Eid vacation, Asaduzzaman said security arrangements had been made locally. He also sought cooperation of city dwellers, especially the house and flat owners, and associations concerned to avert any untoward incident.—UNB
