FE Report
Mobile operator Citycell has tied up with Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA) to offer cell phone-based water and sewerage bill payment facility to its subscriber base.
Under the new arrangement, Citycell customers will be able to pay their Dhaka WASA bills either through their mobile connections or through the designated Citycell Point of Sales.
The two parties signed an agreement in this regard at a city hotel Monday. Chief Executive Officer of Citycell Mehboob Chowdhury and Managing Director of Dhaka WASA Taqsem A Khan inked the deal on behalf of their respective entities.
"This is the first step of Citycell in its MCommerce initiatives as we became the first mobile operator in Bangladesh to offer such service to Dhaka WASA authorities", said Mr Mehboob Chowdhury.
"The service will be fully operational at the end of a one or two months' trial", Mr Mehboob said, adding, "Gradually, we would extend this service to other cities as well".
A concern of Pacific Bangladesh Telecom Limited, Citycell is also the only CDMA network operator in Bangladesh. The country's oldest mobile phone operator now has a subscriber base of around 1.89 million according to latest official statistics.
