Wednesday, 24 November 2010

FE Report
The civil aviation and tourism ministry has taken a move to realise huge stuck up arrears lying with nine state-owned organisations for long against rented space and room charges at airports.
The state-owned entities owe Tk 7.76 million to the civil aviation ministry, which has been detected by the central auditors. The ministry has taken the move following instruction of the standing committee on public accounts.
The civil aviation ministry recently held an inter-ministerial meeting to expedite realisation of the amount remaining stuck up since 2001-02.
The auditors have identified that the immigration department owes Tk 1.87 million to the Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet airports. The defaulting entities also include health department, tourism corporation, National Board of Revenue (NBR), the customs authorities, the postal authorities, Power Development Board (PDB), the customs intelligence and investigation, Telegraph and Telephone Board.
The inter-ministerial meeting has decided to hold talks with all of the nine state-owned organisations to settle the prickly issue within the shortest possible time.
The ministry has also decided to send letters to all of the defaulting organisations urging them to pay off the arrears.
Of the SOEs, the postal department and the tourism corporation have claimed that they have cleared all the dues to the civil aviation.
The other organisations have sought detailed data on the arrears and promised to clear all the dues after reviewing the matter.
Shafiq Alam Mehedy, acting secretary of the civil aviation and tourism ministry, chaired the inter-ministerial meeting.
CAAB provides operational accommodation to organisations and agencies like airlines, customs, immigration, meteorology department, health, police authorities etc at the airports.
