FE Report
Chairman of Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh (BDB) AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury reiterated Friday his demand for dialogue among the political parties to resolve the ongoing political deadlock, saying that otherwise a civil war might break out.
"It is not possible to get rid of the present political situation without dialogue. And for the dialogue, there must be a political consensus for resolving the present political deadlock," he said while speaking at a discussion as the chief guest.
Deshpremik Nagorik Party organised the discussion titled 'national dialogue is a demand of time for resolving the present political impasse' at the National Press Club.
Mr Chowdhury said dialogue is the only political language across the world. So, the Awami League and the BNP should sit in dialogue immediately, he added.
Chairman of the organising committee Ahsan Ullah Shamim presided over the discussion. President of Muslim League Advocate Nurul Haque Majumder and its Secretary General Kazi Abul Khair and journalist Abdul Awal Thakur were, among others, present.
The Bikalpa Dhara chief requested the Chief Justice of the country to take steps to nab the culprits killing innocent people by hurling petrol bombs at vehicles in the name of hartals and blockades.
Criticising Finance Minister AMA Muhith for calling the BNP chairperson 'stupid', he said this sort of word is out of political etiquette.
Mr Chowdhury, also former president of the country, demanded taking measures to stop extrajudicial killings.
Leaders of Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) and Bangladesher Samajtanrik Dal (BSD) urged the people to get united and resist the 'politics of violence' in order to save the country and the people.
They made the call at a sit-in programme held from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm on day in front of the National Press Club.
The leaders said they could not accept anti-people activities in the name of movement. They also called upon the government to resolve the present political crisis politically.
The left leaders also demanded a ban on politics of Jamaat since they are engaged in foiling the trial of war criminals by capitalising the present political deadlock.
President of CPB Mujahidul Islam Selim presided over the programme. Chairman of Gono Forum Dr Kamal Hossain joined the programme and expressed his solidarity with them.
Meanwhile, police foiled the sit-in programme sponsored by Krishak Sramik Janata League chief Kader Siddiqui at Motijheel in the capital on the day.
Mr Siddiqui has been staging sit-in front of his party's central office since January 28, demanding immediate solution to the ongoing political crisis.
According to witnesses, Motijheel police went to the spot around 1:10 pm and swooped on the stage. They later took away the podium.
When contacted, Sub-Inspector of Motijhel Thana Shamim refused to make any comments in this regard.
