CJ urged to dispose pending cases quickly

President M Zillur Rahman Tuesday urged the Chief Justice (CJ) to take necessary measures for quick disposal of pending cases in both Supreme Court (SC) and its subordinate courts to assuage the sufferings of the justice seekers, reports UNB.
"Considering the people's demand, adequate measures are necessary for quick disposal of pending cases," the President said when CJ ABM Khairul Haque called on him at Bangabhaban.
The CJ apprised the President that there are about 350,000 pending cases at the SC while around 1.0 million cases pending before the subordinate courts.
Justice Haque assured that he would take necessary steps for speedy disposal of the cases, and expressed his commitment to ensure the administering justice.
The CJ however sought the President's cooperation for increasing accommodation and logistic supports with more spaces for courts, record rooms and supporting offices at the SC as well as raising facilities for judges and supporting staff.
The President assured him of his support and expressed the hope that dynamism would be brought to the judiciary under the able leadership of the newly appointed CJ of Bangladesh.
Secretaries to the President's office were present during the meeting.
