Clash at Geneva Camp kills youth

FE REPORT | Friday, 24 October 2025

A 20-year-old young man was killed in an explosion during a clash between two groups at the Geneva Camp in the capital's Mohammadpur area on Thursday.
The victim was identified as Md Zahid, son of late Md Imran of the camp. He was the youngest among seven siblings. He worked at a mobile servicing shop in Kalyanpur.
According to local people and police sources, a clash broke out between two groups inside the camp at about 3:30 am.
When Zahid went out of his house to see what was happening, a crude bomb exploded near his feet, leaving him critically injured.
He was first taken to a local hospital and later shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the attending doctors declared him dead at about 4:45 am.
Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH Police Camp outpost, said Zahid's body had been kept at the hospital morgue for post-mortem examinations. He said that the police station concerned has been informed.
Clashes between drug-dealing groups are frequent in the camp, also known as the Bihari Camp, which is a settlement for Urdu-speaking Pakistani refugees.
Over the past few days, sporadic fighting and gunfire have been reported between the Buniya Sohel group and the Pichchi Raja-Chuya Selim group of the camp.
Two days earlier, army personnel detained several people and seized 32 crude bombs from the camp.
