Clash in Kolkata over Taslima
Thursday, 22 November 2007
Muslim groups in Kolkata city clashed with police Wednesday demanding expulsion of Taslima Nasreen from India, reports UNB.
Crowds led by the All India Minority Forum (AIMF) fought a pitched battle with the police and threw stones at them, reports Press Trust of India.
Traffic on the arterial AJC Bose Road came to a halt because of the agitation as violence spread to the city's Muslim-dominated areas of Park Circus, Ripon Street and other places.
The AIMF had called for road blockade on the day protesting extension of visa to Taslima. Demonstrators demanded that she should be evicted from India.
