Clash over jute processing injures 15 in Jhenidah

JHENIDAH, Aug 28 (UNB): At least 15 people were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers following a dispute over jute processing at Hakimpur village in Shailkupa upazila on Wednesday morning.
Officer-in-charge of Shailkupa Police Station Sagir Mia said some farmers of the village locked in an altercation over jute rotting in a cannel at 11.00 am.
They, divided into two groups-one led by Atiar Rahman and another by Amin Mondol-equipped with home-made weapons, attacked each other leaving 15 people injured.
The attackers vandalised ¾ houses of their rivals.
Informed, police rushed to the spot and quelled the unrest.
The injured were rushed to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital and Shailkupa Upazila Health Complex.
Of them, two were shifted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital as their conditions deteriorated.
An unusual calm was prevailing in both the groups following the incident.
