Clash over land at Pallabi leaves one dead

A clash between two groups of people over a land dispute at North Kalshi in the city's Pallabi area on Thursday left a student killed and three others injured, reports UNB.  
The victim was identified as Abdur Rahman Chanchal (26), a student of Bangabandhu College, Mirpur-12, while the injured as Rajib Hossain, 28, Md Ali, 27, and Md Shaheen, 30.
Quoting locals, police said Joinuddin had long been at loggerheads with MA Awal, one of the owners of Heavenly Property Ltd , over a piece of land at Barirtek in North Kalshi area of Mirpur-12.
Both the groups fought a pitched battle with sharp weapons around 11:00 am over taking possession of the land, said officer-in-charge of Pallabi Police Station Ziauzzaman.
At least four people, including Abdur Rahman Chanchal, Rajib Hossain, Md Ali and Shaheen, were seriously injured in the clash. They were taken to nearby Islami Bank Hospital and then shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where Chanchal died around 1:15 pm, the OC said.
Hospital sources said Chanchal was, in fact, sitting beside a mobile servicing stall when the clash broke out and got hurt during the fight. Son of Hafez Ali, Chancal had been residing at house-574 of Block-Ta, Mirpur-12.
