Clashes at Madaripur puja mondops, 10 hurt

MADARIPUR, Oct 9 : At least 10 people were injured in two separate clashes that erupted in two puja mondops of the district on Tuesday night, sources said.
According to Kalkini thana police, a clash erupted between visitors and security personnel at Sikarmongal puja mondop in Kalkini Upazila following a dispute over erecting of puja mondop.
At least seven persons were injured in the clash. Of them, Kamalesh Mondol (22), Sabita Rani (19), Swapan (23), Arman (18), Moshiur (19) and Sumon (20) were admitted to Kalkini Upazila Health Complex, sources added.
In another incident, a security guard at a puja mondop in Sannarsir Char village under Shibchar Upazila was severely beaten by some unruly people who tried to establish their supremacy at the puja mondop on the same night.
The miscreants also injured two other people who tried to resist the attack on the security guard Khalil.
President of Madaripur Puja Udjapan Parishad Yogesh Chandra Bhoumik urged the local administration to take immediate action against the real culprits.
Superintendent of Madaripur Police Devdas Bhattacharya told this correspondent that two separate cases were filed with Kalkini and Shibchar thanas in this connection, sources added.
