Clashes between BNP factions in Chandpur leave over 50 injured

CHANDPUR, Sept 21 (UNB): Over 50 people were injured in a series of clashes between two factions of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in Hajiganj upazila in Chandpur district until Saturday morning.
Witnesses said the clashes broke out between two groups of supporters of Engineer Mominul Haque, former president of Chandpur BNP and a member of BNP's central executive committee, on Friday evening over establishing supremacyand continued overnight in Toragar and Mokimabad Sardar Bari.
Those severely injured were transferred from Hajiganj Health Complex to hospitals in Cumilla and Dhaka.
During the clash, both factions attacked the each other using local weapons, leading to vandalism and arson.
Rumors spread about the deaths of 2-3 people, but police have yet to confirm any fatalities.
