Clear majority for BJP!

Tuesday, 15 April 2014

Nearly a dozen opinion polls across India have so far predicted the BJP emerging as India’s single largest party – and some have predicted that the NDA coalition it leads could come within hand-shaking distance of a majority in the Indian Lok Sabha (Lower House). But for the first time this week, a latest poll by India’s leading NDTV channel predicted that the NDA will surge past the magic 272-mark that would give it simple majority and not make it dependent on any regional party to form government. NDTV’s latest opinion poll shows the BJP and its allies collecting 275 seats, three more than needed to form the government. The BJP, led by prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, is seen to getting 226 seats, the party’s strongest performance ever and a very long way from the only two seats it had won in 1984. With some canny late alliances like the one with the Telugu Desam Party in Andhra Pradesh, the BJP seems to have gained much ground in the penultimate lap of the general elections. This will be the BJP’s best performance ever, NDTV said. BJP’s main rival the Congress, which has ruled straight for the last 10 years at the head of the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) registers a low point in its history. The party has never gone below 100, this time it is likely to dip to 92, the NDTV opinion poll shows, according to bdnews24.com.
