Clinker-laden vessel sinks in Bay

A cargo vessel with 13 crew on board sunk in the channel leading to the Chittagong Port on Thursday morning. However, all the 13 sailors of the lighterage ship managed to swim ashore. No injury is reported. Captain Nazmul Alam, Deputy Conservator of Chittagong Port said the ship, ‘Brishti,’ loaded with 900 tonnes of cement clinker sank in the Bay near Patenga sea beach around 9am. Owned by private company named Marine Services, the cargo vessel was heading to the port with clinker for cement manufacturer Diamond Cement. The reason behind sinking of the vessel could not be known immediately, according to a news agency.
