Clinker vessel sinks in Ctg

CHITTAGONG, June 12 (BSS): A cement clinker-laden lighter vessel sank near the Patenga Beach Thursday morning.
Chittagong Port sources said the vessel 'Bristi' sank in the Bay with nearly 900 tonnes of cement clinker at around 8.30 am, when it was going to a private jetty in the Isanagar area of the city.
All 13 crew of the vessel were, however, rescued by the staff of other ships soon after the incident, the sources said.
Radio control operator at the Chittagong Port said the Bristi met the accident while it was heading to the jetty of Diamond Cement Limited with cement clinker from a mother vessel named 'Xing Peng Da'.
Port sources said the accident did not affect movement of vessels in the port channel. The reason behind sinking of the vessel could not be known immediately.
