Closed mills to be re-opened in Khulna

KHULNA, May 12: Economic affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister, Mashiur Rahman said that the gas supply network in Khulna and Mongla Port would be modernised.
"The closed mills and industries in the region will be opened consecutively and the dues of the workers of the jute mills and port workers also will be paid gradually," he said.
Mashiur was exchanging views with the board of directors of Khulna Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and leaders of the business community of Khulna.
The adviser also said that ships cannot move easily due to lack of navigability through the Mongla port channel. A dredger will be purchased for capital dredging in the port channel. The government is trying to set up an Indian VISA office in Khulna, he also informed.
KCCI President SM Shaharuzzaman Murtoza presided over the meeting.
Former KCCI president SM Nazrul Islam, Khulna District president of Awami League Sheikh Harun-or-Rashid, KCCI Director Sharif Fazlur Rahman, Vice President of Greater Khulna Unnayan Committee Ashrafuzzaman, Nur Afroz Ali MP, MPA Chairman (Acting) Abdul Mannan and Customs Commissioner Nurul Islam also spoke, among others, on the occasion.
