NAFISA ALAM TOREE AND ZABIN TAZRIN NASHITA | Thursday, 20 July 2023

After an electric and astounding competition, INTERN 2023 came to an end recently. The most brilliant minds among the freshmen at Islamic University of Technology (IUT) battled it for the eagerly anticipated grand finale of the novice business case competition. With everyone vying for the top prize, the final round was a thrilling exhibition of strategy, creativity, and collaboration. After the immense competition between 78 teams, only eight made their way to the finals.
The finalists faced a complex and challenging case study in the final round, which required a thorough knowledge of business concepts, market and industry dynamics. The case focused on product development, and participants were tasked with strategising foolproof plans for market penetration. The teams had to come up with creative answers to real-life company scenarios and the proposed product.
The finalists came up with some brilliant ideas for their given challenge. They showcased strategies that showed an in-depth understanding of both new industry trends and customer expectations, in addition to being data-driven. After each presentation, the respective judges engaged the teams with critical questions, examining the depth of their study. Each team lived up to the challenges with persuasive answers.
One of the judges, Mashharar Bhuiyan, who is currently working as Agile Automation Lead at Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC, mentioned, "The mettle and grit displayed by the freshmen this year only goes to show how far we have come and how far up we have to rise. We were positively awed at the organising team's attention to detail and delivery of commitment - whether it be timing, process, or quality of the event. Godspeed IUTCBS, keep this up!"
The judges revealed the winners after some tough competition, but the genuine victory stretched beyond the champions themselves. Throughout the competition, all competitors went through self-development and broadened their knowledge. The positions of the champion, first runner-up, and second runner-up were achieved by the teams "Profit Pilots", "Sugarpuffs" and "Maverick Minds" respectively.
The captain of the winning team, Abdullah Al Kafi, shared his experience of INTERN 2023, saying, "First of all, I would like to thank CBS and the organisers for this outstanding event. Intern has not only made our vacation productive but also given us the opportunity to explore more about business functionalities. After losing five to six competitions in the first round, we kept trying, and finally, we got the result of our hard work. Thanks to my team. This victory has boosted our confidence and reaffirmed our belief in our abilities".
The writers spoke to Nazmus Sakib Rumman, president of IUT Career and Business Society, about his insights on INTERN 2023. He said, "From being a freshman in 2020 to being the fourth year in 2023, the evolution of INTERN from being a competition of 15 teams to being one with more than 70 fighting for dominance has taken place right before my eyes. But the core idea has remained unchanged. INTERN was spectacular, showcasing the brilliance of prospective first-year students and their strategic thinking. Participants from various backgrounds impressed the judges with their business acumen and problem-solving abilities. And to me, this feature will remain its most defining one rather than all the grandeur."
Each year, the organising committee of IUT CBS puts in tireless efforts to ensure the event is thoroughly planned and executed. INTERN continues to grow, bringing together brilliant young minds and nurturing their entrepreneurial energy. The novice business competition is a platform for learning, teamwork, and personal growth. These outstanding individuals have the potential to have a significant impact on the corporate world.
