Cluster entry test for public universities this time: UGC

FE REPORT | Thursday, 30 November 2023

The upcoming admission test for the country's public universities under the academic year 2023-24 will be held in a cluster system like the previous year, said the University Grants Commission (UGC) on Wednesday.
Instead of a previously planned single entry test, the upcoming entry test will be held in a cluster system.
UGC Chairman (Additional) Prof Muhammad Alamgir said these while speaking as the chief guest at a meeting with the stakeholders.
"The UGC has planned to conduct an admission test under a single umbrella (single entry test) of all the universities. A committee was formed in this regard and a drafted ordinance was also prepared. But due to unavoidable reasons, it is not possible to organise a single admission test from the coming academic year," Prof Alamgir said. However, like last year, the upcoming admission test will be held in a cluster system, he added.
He urged the universities outside the cluster admission test, including Dhaka University and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, to join the cluster this year.
He called for setting a precedent by following the leading old universities like Bangladesh Agricultural University in the cluster admission system.
Prof Alamgir also raised questions about keeping ward quota (for children of the university teachers and officials) in public university entrance exams.
