CMP to step up security to curb RMG container stealing

CHITTAGONG, Jan 16: Chittagong Metropolitan Police commissioner M Moniruzzaman Thursday assured the RMG industry owners of stepping up security in the industrial areas vulnerable to organised container stealing.
He said patrolling of police forces in Baizid Bostami, Nasirabad and Aturar Depot areas would be strengthened to check pilferage of RMG goods from the containers.
He was speaking at an opinion exchange meeting with the BGMEA leaders at its conference room in the port city recently.
BGMEA first vice president Nasiruddin Chowdhury, Directors AM Chowdhury Selim, Liaquat Ali Chowdhury, Engineer Kafiluddin, Md Khalilur Rahman, MA Salam, and Moinuddin, Deputy Commissioner (Port) of CMP Kusum Dewan and Deputy Commissioner (Traffic) Faruk Ahmed were present on the occasion.
In the meeting the BGMEA leaders said organised criminals have been active in the northern area of the port city recently as a number of incidents of swindling and looting of goods by breaking open the containers have occurred over the weeks.
They demanded step up of police patrol in the areas,
steps for recovery of stolen goods and build in a strong resistance against the container thieves.
The BGMEA leaders also urged the CMP commissioner not to bring the sticker-labelled transports of RMG on emergency export duty during requisition by police.
