CNG-consuming assocs threatento go on indefinite strike

Leaders of five associations whose members consume compressed natural gas (CNG) have threatened to shut down their businesses for an indefinite period if the government further increases the price of the environment-friendly fuel.
They also came down heavily over the comment of the finance minister at the possibility of further raising the CNG price within the year, saying the move would encourage air pollution and their investment of Tk 150 billion in the sector would be in dire straits.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith last week told reporters that the CNG price should be close to that of diesel and the hike could take place by December this year. His statement caused a great concern to the owners of CNG-driven vehicles, CNG filling stations
