CHITTAGONG, Oct 21: Passengers have rather become hostage to drivers of CNG driven auto-rickshaws in the port city and its adjoining areas of the district.
The drivers realise excess fare from the passengers and do not want to go to all destinations. As such, untoward incidents between CNG autorickshaw drivers and passengers are taking place almost regularly, sources said.
On the other hand, concerned agencies including Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) and Traffic Department of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) could never establish their absolute control over the owners and drivers of CNG run auto-rickshaws.
The situation is adversely affecting passengers as they have become regular victims of harassment at the hands of CNG driven autorickshaw drivers. Consequently CMP initiatives of resisting this anarchy by the drivers of these environment friendly three wheelers still remains bleak.
Sources said over one lakh passengers travel on CNG auto-rickshaws each day in the city.
